Project Lenny our brilliant orange bustoration
So 3 weeks a go now me and the wife drove 4hrs to pick up our first Aircooled vw. It drove back with no issues the plan is get it solid, resprayed and in decent nick for the trip down to cornwall we have planned in August. So I’m cracking on to say the least. Lots of progress do far and loads still to come

Did you get the gearchange sorted out OK, and if this is going to turn into a build thread you know we need lots of pictures
It's worthwhile putting vehicle details in your forum signature and general location in case local support is needed

Thanks for the reply and not yet mate, but took it round the block the other day and seemed ok. But got the oil for a service and going to adjust the clutch within the week. Plan is to nail body work and welding then get it rebuilt and start to play with that as worst case I’ll get a refurb unit but whilst I’m messing with that it’ll be getting painted [THUMBS UP SIGN]

Yep, definitely brilliant orange, I'm not sure who has the biggest smile with Lenny, the dog or the Mrs.
I see you have already addressed some of the usual places and you look pretty handy on the bodywork too, if you want another one for a bit more practice I can probably find one.

Re: Project Lenny our brilliant orange bustoration
Bit more progress tonight I cut out the rotten section above the sliding door rail, to find it was made up of cardboard and filler.. so I’ve made a new Steel piece and welded it in given the van so much more rigidity and the rail operates so much better.

More work on the rear quarter tonight, thought it was fairly good originally but seen the previous repair panel was built onto pure rust. So that had to come out. As well as some rot in the arches lots of work ahead.
Also a new rear quarter panel from JK has landed

All looks very familiar to me...three years on
Behind my sliding door rail was knackered. Plasticman on here makes the panel for that. Saves you having to cut and shut like you have done. Sorry you are finding this out now.
Looks like you are making quick work of it. Good luck pal

Yeah, he's cracking on with it at an embarrassingly quick rate
Some really useful pictures of the rear wing panel from my perspective, useful to have confirmation of how the engine floor extends out to the wing panel as I have a hole and a repair panel to fit when I get round to that corner. Was it spot welded onto a flange ?

The rear arch extends in to go under the engine / boot floor , the photo shows the remains of the arch.

Re: Project Lenny our brilliant orange bustoration
Ah bugger, but in all fairness only took me a couple of hours so far and that’s the worst bit of body work. So once that’s done should be plain sailing. Hoping to get all the welding work done by the end of the weekend as wanting to get painting next weekend etc so busy time at the minute
